The more time I spend in a room full of smiling females, all present to connect with each other and enjoy snowboarding, the more I fall platonically in love with women as a whole. The weekend of January 6-7, 2018 at Mt. Baker was affirmation in that feeling. The first [HOPEFULLY ANNUAL] Ladies Layback Weekend was the lovechild of Hana Beaman, Robin Van Gyn, and Barrett Christy-Cummins, and their inspiring legacy was felt in every corner of the event tent (Thanks Evo!) I unfortunately was only able to make it for Saturday, but there was no shortage of fun to be had and money raised. All proceed went to Boarding for Breast Cancer (B4BC), The Changing Tides Foundation, and The Glacier Coal Pad skate park.

I moved, as the press does, in the background, but it was impossible to escape the sense of community and belonging. The weekend kicked off on Friday night with a party at Mt. Baker Snowboard Shop. Saturday was the off-snow portion where I listened to knowledgeable leaders speak about mountain safety. And watched determined skateboarders nail their trick goals on the mini ramp (Thanks Vans!) with help from coaches from Skate Like A Girl. The day finished with a retro-party where artists’ work hung for silent auction.

Sunday, I was not present, but the pictures from the layback event have me ready to block out my entire weekend for next year (sorry, bossman.) And while I could go on and on and on about how much being around these amazing females made me feel like I was in a state of constant hugging, I’ll let the photos say the rest.
