The hot desert sun baked the southern California resort of Bear Mountain, as over seventy riders from near and far showed up to claim their part of the $3,000 dollar cash purse for the Das Tables rail jam on December 30, 2017. With two rounds and two separate builds, the contest had no losers, but definitely saw its fair share of winners.
Big Bear’s latest wonderboy Drayden Gardner claimed first place for round one’s Turn It Up build, while Brett Wilkinson snagged 3rd and 1st in the respective Straight Line and Turn It Up rounds. Mammoth’s Denver Orr snagged 2nd in both rounds, and local gem aficionado Johnny Miller walked away with an impromptu Best Trick for his mind-melting bindingless stunts. Melissa Evans beat out the massive crowds of lady rippers to snag Women’s 1st overall.
Denver sends the super gap
And it went off! Injuries were kept to a minimum as the tables were gapped, spun on, flipped over, hippy jumped, and certainly crashed into more than once. DJ Slipmatt layed down the tunes, and Snowboarder Mag’s own Mark Clavin and Pat Bridges ran the microphone. Vibes were all-time, the bar was packed, and Bear felt a little more like it used to.
Judged by Keegan Valaika, Alex Sherman, and local ripper Lenny Mazzotti, the event was a great way to end the year as well as kickstart the 2018 Bear Mountain contest cycle. Los Angeles’s favorite lakeside mountain gears up to keep the contests rolling with the Air & Style Qualifiers January 6-7, 2018.
