We just had a short video chat with Tahoe Danger Zone’s Nick Visconti, where he talked to us from the comfort of his hospital bed in Tahoe. Nick got sick at the SIA tradeshow in Denver but managed to make it home before being admitted to the hospital with Viral Meningitis early last week.
“I’m surprised you haven’t made fun of me on the site yet… something about how I’m strong and my physique should have been able to fight it off,” Nick said.
Well, normally we would, but meningitis isn’t strep throat, so we wanted to make sure we had some first hand details before we talked about Nick’s muscles.
Meningitis is an infection of the fluid in the spinal cord and the fluid that surrounds the brain. There’s no specific treatment is available for viral meningitis, and Nick’s doctors twice told him his infection might be fatal during his ordeal.
It turns out Nick’s physique is fighting off the virus, and Nick plans to get released from the hospital today. With all that skating he was doing on the Salomon mini ramp at SIA, you would have thought he would have sweated out any sort of virus, but meningitis is a nasty bugger.
