Firing Squad: March 16, 2010

Well this is it, the final week for our Champ. Will this shot join the previously inducted photos in the Champions Gallery, or is the challenger’s perfect pow slash enough to take it down. No jokes about twigs or fluffy pow this week, this is serious business people, so vote!

Think you can do better? Then quit your bitching. The Firing Squad is a weekly photo competition. Winners of a single battle will receive a pair of Da Kine gloves and should a photo survive 4 weeks, the photographer receives a place in the Champions Gallery and a Da Kine Camera Pack, as well as a chance to compete in the year-end Ultimate Champions battle. Challenger, all the way. More artistic and serene; it draws in the audience with the tension between the beauty and the challenge of the powder. Champ, on the other hand, could be a bird or hot air balloon. It’s a nice shot, but only because I knew what it was.

The lack of headroom on the tree bugs me. I know the rider is the subject, and they are framed nicely but with the tree dominating the frame, it needs just a little more space above it, so that the top of the tree doesn’t distract me.

Overall though I like that both are a photograph with a snowboarder, not a photograph of a snowboarder.

I’m still not a big fan of the champ’s photo, but the challenger’s shot this week looks like my grandma shot it on her point and shoot.

Wow, I’m not sure but I think Catherine needs glasses. Either that, or she should stop voting for pictures with a blindfold. Hot air balloon? Really? God I hope that was a joke…

is this a joke? the challenger has no appealing composition what so ever and is completely flat with no contrast in the lighting at all.
