3-10-02- hey brooke - as you have left me out completely from your article on the former blue lodgers i will assume that you have no idea who i am - anyway i just wanted to comment on your zine archive which i think was very good, but
did not include PLAYER at all and you even talked w/ bridges... i believe that a follow up is in order... and also, im not sure when it was that you spoke w/ eric campbell but he does not work at filias advertising anymore...word is that he has moved out west - he does zine reviews for snowboarder though - maybe they would be interested in buying your article since transworld isnt... oh yeah i ran into eric larochelle who is actually holding down a steady job doing computer / IT maintenance at some company in framingham, ma and is engaged - for real getting married - im not kidding...
chris mulcahy works at eastern boarder in nashua w/ paul miller + maybe nimick and dan potter... ummm ... paul luke and andy all moved out of that student apartment and left ruby to live with some kid whose father owns or runs the company that makes those shitty prefab concrete skateparks that litter the northeast - now there is an article waiting to happen... a massive skatepark of VANS proportions (actually built by rc/mc http://rcmcsk8parks.com/ ) is opening in rye, nh in april... probably going to be very $$$, very Xtreme dudeguy, and very daycare... but indoor, three concrete bowls, two streetcourses, + more is probably going to noteworthy...http://www.ryeairfield.com so i guess thats about it for now on behalf of the anonymous forgotten bluelodgers: matt | al | aaron | chip | hannah | the chickens | mrs. jose evans wordemup-- Daniel Bickerstaffe

1/15/02- Luke Mathison has recovered from the Airwalk flames and is now riding for Rome. Don't know what Rome is? They're not a company, but a snowboard syndicate, whatever the hell that means. Anyway, Luke is about three days away from being 21, but he managed to get himself a $300 fine for using a fake ID anyway. Yo Beat isn't legitimate enough to get Banked Slalom credentials, but I didn't want them anyway. (Besides, a helpful call from Transworld should straighten things out.) They Olympic team has been selected and it is: Shannon Dunn, Tricia Byrnes, Kelly Clarke, Danny Kass, Ross Powers, JJ Thomas and Tommy Chezchin. If you want to know my thoughts on this, read the Olympic rant. That is all.

yo to the beat y'all

12/22/01- Hey, it's been awhile right? Well, truth is I'm over gossip and nothing has happened anyway. But for a quick recap of only the facts, here goes: Danny Kass won like every contest he entered and now he has a pro model. I recently heard him referred to as a cross between Craig Kelly and Jamie Lynn, but if you ask me, he's more like those girls you would run into on the Jersey Shore (I don't know what that means.) Maybe I'm referring to the supposed Mastercard he received as part of some sickening sponsorship deal. I also heard he's riding for Taco Bell. Mike Parziale is starting a new company called Think Tank that will be some sort of multimedia design graphics thing. He made some Yo Beat shirts for me. If you want one, send me some money and I'll see what I can do. Forum started a new offshoot and it's called Jennyus, which may be the stupidest name ever, but it will still sell like it's endorsed by Peter Line anyway (oh, wait.) Lots of pro snowboarders have new sponsors, but who cares about that. Airwalk isn't making boards anymore. Preston Strout is riding for K2, everyone else on the team is fucked. Catherine Nieves got sued (details pending) and Kyle Clancy is trying to make it to the Olympics. Speaking of the Olympics, now there's a waste of a good season in Salt Lake and a couple weeks of Friends episodes. They've already been pumping up Chris Klug as one of their "check out this amazing story of triumph!" If you're wondering, Chris Klug is a snowboard racer and he got some liver operation or some other bullshit publicity stunt. You might catch his runs in between some figure skating. I watched Freddy Got Fingered, and Tom Green does a boardslide on a skateboard, then they replay it 15 times. Worth the rental. Amazingly enough, Out Cold is still in theatres, but I refuse to support it by giving them $7 to exploit snowboarding.

5/17/01- Shane Flood cut his hair. John Cavan is making a movie called Iron Curtain and it will have a bunch of people you've never heard of and Shane Flood and Jaime Macleod in it. He is shooting the entire thing with a death lens, so it may or may not look like a skate video. The Blue Lodge is done. Mt. Baker has the lamest snowboard scene ever, which involves too many uses of the sentence, "Dude, we built the best kicker on Granny's." The Bellingham skatepark is good as long as you never go anywhere else. The Burlington skatepark isn't as bad as I made it out to be, but the kids there still suck. There's other stuff too, but you'll have to wait until August. peace.

11/02/00- Shane Flood has a sponsor who gives him money. They are called Ride Snowboards. This is why he hasn't called me crying in a few weeks. Matty Ryan works at a Mercedes dealership, and Kevin Suseinka is carrying the east coast flag by writing about it for just about every magazine you can think of, but he doesn't realize that the internet is instant, and print mags have a delay, so this gossip is still new. word.

10/25/00- A few weeks ago I received a press release from Catamount Ski Area in New York. It came on a piece of paper in an envelope to the address on this website. It's that kind of genius that will be behind their new park and pipe this season, and you want to know who it belongs to? None other than Matt Gormley, so you never know, while his internet skills may be a bit behind the times, his snow skill are right on. I will now take this opportunity to make fun of Eerik Ilves. He, along with Andrew Mutty have been added to this years Killington team. Now you may ask, didn't he move to Vancouver? Well, yes, he did, but he's actually going back east for the winter. Genius, pure genuis. Catherine Nieves, Zach Leach, Kyle Clancy, Lane Knack, Amber Stackhouse and two other people have all moved into a house in Mammoth. The drama level in this house should be extremely high this year, and we'll keep you posted, especially since Lane has already claimed that Kyle is a drama queen.Okay, I'm peacing this gossip column out. late.

8/16/00- Right now I am happy to report that Mr. Shane Flood (he requests to be called that) is now well on his way to becoming the new Rico Suave. Seems that while the mercury in his hook up thermometer hadn't risen in years, he took full advantage of Mt. Hood and made out with five girls, including some strippers. In other stripper news, Jason Borgstede has taken quite a liking to them since breaking up with his girlfriend. If you ever go to the strip club with him, dress nice, cause he gets mad if you don't wear your best shoes. He might also be bitter after being dropped by Burton, seems him, Jason Brown, Auralie Sayers, and Derek Heidt, as well as a large portion of the B team have been given the axe by the big B. A bunch more people got hurt at Hood this summer, but I don't really know who, just the Kim Bohnsack tore her ACL. If you want full Mt. Hood gossip, so to solsnowboarding.com (formerly twsnow.com, which is n/a at the moment.) That's about all I've got for you this time, but if you hear anything, let me know...

7/26/00- I'm really bored right now, so I'm solving my dilemma by pretending to have a conversation with you the reader, and I'm going to pretend you're responding too. So have you heard about this Nike Indoor Quarterpipe deal? It sounds like it's going to be really cool, dot com sponsor and all. Interesting tidbit, the event is taking place at the venue that Britney Spears is performing at only one month before. Maybe if you're lucky, some remnants from her concert will be left at the snowboard thing, but one thing's for sure, it's not going to be as cool. How about Risto Scott, did you hear about him? Word is, he missed out on a recent trip to Europe and instead spent two days in jail, he was framed. I'm sure you're wondering what's happening on the east coast though, right? Well, I don't know, I heard the weather sucks, but the surf's been alright. So I went to my first surf contest. As it turns out, snowboard contests aren't the lamest thing in the world. Wow, you're a really good listener. Well, what else is new, one of the guys on my list got married, Blaise Rosenthal tied the knot in Vegas. Oh yeah, I have Shane Flood news, he hurt his shoulder, again. This is actually old news, but whatever, he's still at Hood riding, and rumor has it he showed all the Volcom riders up at a recent photo shoot, but that doesn't mean I can get him hooked up by any snowboard companies. Okay, you're boring me now. Later

7/20/00- Hot off the press: Peter Line and Nate Bozung have been banned from Government Camp and Timberline Ski Area after the Gov'y riot, which you can read all about on Bluetorch.com. According to Peter, "They're just saying I stole a go-cart, it's all just stupid rumors." He explained, "they need scape goats, we're just high profile." Nate could not be reached for comment (okay, I didn't try.) In other news, Jussi Oksanen got kicked off Sessions for not having a sticker close enough to the nose of his board. Brian Barb spent the beginning of the summer with a hurt MCL, but he's back and fully operational. Borgstede got dropped from Burton and according to Vin, a lot more good riders will be without sponsors. Okay, that's enough gossip for one month.

6/6/00- It has come to my attention that this gossip page now sucks. I never have anything I am motivated to write on it. I'm really, really sick of writing about snowboard injuries, and that's about all that happens on the east coast, so I'm taking this opportunity to send you to a much better gossip page. Yes, this shit is real. http://www.scottserfas.com/xxx/xxx01/index.htm

4/9/2000- I don't have much, but Luke Wynen, Luke Omand and Brian Regis have all officially been dropped from Sims, along with pretty much everyone else on the team. Curiously enough, these cuts were made just days after the photo at right of Luke Wynen was taken. Coincidence? I think not.

In other news: Andrew Mutty was picked up by Smith Optics, Shane Flood is afraid of girls and I've been banned from Superpark. Over and out.

3/22/2000- Wow, it's been awhile. In all my efforts to get more people invovled in Yo Beat, I actually forgot to do anything. Oops. Just to keep you entertained, here's some very thrilling gossip. First, injuries: Brian Barb broke his L2 region of his back. Rahm Klampert is also out with a broken back. NH photographer extraordinaire Paul Miller did a job on his wrist, as did Eric Koval and David Carrier-Porcheron. Neil Goss, Mark Reilly and Brian Regis are all having knee issues, although none seem to be particularly serious. I know there's more injuries, but I forget. Nicole Anglerath is pregnant, due sometime around December. Kim Bohnsack signed on with Blue Torch as one of their first pros. This roster might someday include Ross Powers. Keir Dillon is making a hefty chunk of change off Lycos. There are more internet mergers, but I'm not even going to justify them right now. Ross Powers won another Truck, and after this weekend, will probably have won a second one for the season at the grand prix. Guillame Morrisette signed on with either Sims or Nitro. Speaking of Sims, they hired Four Star marketing director Travis Wood, World Industries Team Manager Chris Saydah, and a whole new team. Brian Thein, Jordan Mendenhall, Mark Frank Montoya and Kurt Wastell have all signed on, no word on the fate of such east coast team riders as Brian Regis, Luke Omand or Luke WynenMatt Kass is getting married in June. Okay, I'm over gossiping now. That's all.

STRATTON, VT (2.15.00) - Itıs back! The original Stratton halfpipe is back and better than it ever was. After close to a ten year absence Stratton decided to re-dig this little piece of snowboarding history. The Stratton pipe was one of the first pipes to be permanent to a resort even way back in the days when only a handful of resorts allowed snowboarding. Of course
keeping up with current technology the pipe is no longer hand dug and there is even a small park at the entrance. It isn't as large as the main pipe but should help take some of the traffic away from it, and for those of you who live in the pipe this is welcome news. It is off to the left at the start of "Lower Standard" on the lower mountain, just look for the orange gate that
is the entrance. The main pipe remains mid-way down "Suntanner" on the left side, in clear view from just about anywhere in the base area.- Chris Stepanek (ur13)

2/2/00. We are attempting to broaden our horizons here at Yo Beat, by bringing you updates for around the east coast. So far, we only have NY, so here it is. Rob Ticho is the man behind Site Project.

New York's weather has been quite cold lately. Here in the catskill mountains we have recieved about 30 inches of snow in the last month (more if you know where to look.) Like much of the East Coast, temperatures have often been around -40 with the windchill. There are advantages and disadvantages to this, of course. The cold has kept the lame-ass riders off the hill and provided for excellent snow making. However, the cold requires one to don many layers making clothing too bulky for decent park or pipe riding. The solution? Head to the hills. The woods lately have had plenty of coverage and offer excellent untouched pow. It's a site often not experienced in the East-a return to the freeriding roots of our sport. As for me, if you do catch me inbounds I'm probably packing a camera. Thanks to the creation of the Tri-State Series to the USASA there have been alot of competitions in Windham and Hunter. This has brought a bunch of riders out to do their best and pose for some shots. That's all for now. Catch you next time.

2/2/00 Windham, New York - The USASA has announced the creation of a new regional series to help meet the needs of riders on the East Coast. The newly formed Tri State Region will be holding competitions at Ski Windham and Hunter Mountain in New York, and at Brodie and Jiminy Peak in western Massachusetts. The Trio State Series is comprised of Half Pipe, Slopestyle, Boardercross, Slalom, and Giant Slalom. Co-Directors Carl Swanback and Mark Richardson hope to create a competitive region that gives riders from Eastern New York, Western Mass, Connecticut, and Northern New Jersey USASA sanctioned competitions held within a reasonable distance of many riders homes. The competition schedule has been finalized, and is available both on the Tri State Region website at http://usasatsr.webjump.com and the national USASA site at www.usasa.org. Check these sites often for updates and information. 1/29/00 In the last four days, major shit has gone down at Snowboarder Magazine. Editor Rob Campbell, Publisher Doug Paladini, Photo Editor George Covalla, and Art Director Jamie Meulhausen have all left the mothership to work with former Snowboarder Editor Steve Hawk on an E commerce site. This leaves Mark Sullivan who is now Editor, and Pat Bridges, who's moving out to California to be Senior Editor. According to Bridges, the new Snowboarder will be, "EI with a budget," so watch out.

1/18/00 Yep, it's officially been awhile. Seems a lack of snow, has left me with a lack of desire to think, talk, or write about snowboarding. Luckily, that means that some stuff has actually happened since last time I pretended to know what was going on. First off, it seems that my snowboarder credentials have left people with the notion that I have to clout in the snowboard industry. For the record, no I can not get anyone into the X Games. Even with in influential contact such as myself, you still have to qualify by doing a series of contests, which curiously, all take place on the west coast. If you just want to go the X Games events you might care about break down like this:

Okay, enough about that. The boys at SOLtv have finally done something noteworthy, the Killington webcam is now up and fully operational. Now you can determine the pipe sucks with out wasting the time and gas to drive up there. Killington's park has been relocated to Ram's Head, and was actually good for a day or two. With Eric Webster off park and pipe detail, there's certainly a chance Killington might have good facilities this year. Cheak out the Killington Webcam here.

In Plymouth/ Blue Lodge news Brian Barb broke his arm, but it's probably better by now. This was a good thing, because it gave the rookie sensation an excuse not to go snowboarding and rather concentrate on getting good grades. With the first two White Mountain Snowboard Camps of the season under his belt, Mike Parziale has found time to be park ranger at Loon. He is also in teh process of planning some sort of colligiate competition series, which will be "fun" and you don't have to be an "official snowboarder dude" to do them. We'll fill you in with all the info when we get it. All the other Plymouth kids have devoted their time to learning/doing backside rodeos. Since the first real snow of the season fell earlier this week, the boys of NH have also gotten a chance to slide some rails around campus, as well as race their GT Snow racer, even though those were played last year. Unforunatly local super star Matty Ryan has been too busy snowboarding to bring a Snow Skate to the Blue Lodge, so their dopeness has been put on hold.

The Stimilon Air and Style Challenge has been cancelled for this season, due to a lack of snow. Stimilon is possibly going to hold a different contest series later in the season, and will also be building the jump for the US Open. For more info, go to www.stimilon.com.

11/12/99 There's not really any good gossip right now, but it's been awhile, so figured I should come up with something. A lot of people are riding for different companies, but who cares about that, right? I heard that Abe Teeter isn't riding for Burton anymore, though. That's all.

yo to the beat y'all

10/12/99 Last Saturday, Mountain Creek, everyone's favorite Jersey ice rink, suffered a fire which took out one of the two main lodges. The fire was apparently an arson. The area still plans to open on December 15th. (I heard this on the news, sorry it's not more interesting.)

9/16/99 For a lack of anything better to write about, I will now attempt to list every cool-guy snowboarder that goes to Plymouth State College in an attempt to look cool, as I too attend. Here goes: Preston Strout, Mike Parziale, Brain Barb, Luke Mathison, Nugget, Jaime Macleod, Paul Miller, Liam Barrett, Andy Benhardt, Pete Jacobs, Mickey, Larry, and Dawn Dwyer, everyone else is lame. People who don't go to Plymouth but should as they are part of the tight nit NH scene: Scotty Arnold and Tom Flocco. Now the reason that all the previous attend PSC would be the cheerleaders, no wait, it's proximity to Loon. What sucks is that now that everyone is here, Steve Ash has resigned from his position and Loon's park will probably no longer be the best in the east. Everyone should go to Waterville Saturday 9/18 for their bar-b-que/skate jam. Then, everyone should ride there, cause Mike Bettera is gonna be on it (we hope).

yo to the beat y'all

8/18/99 Now for something truly spectacular, two months worth of gossip. First off, injuries: Mt. Hood is the worst for this section, you're out there pushing yourself for the photographers, trying to get that Mack Dawg Part, and the snow is soft, and you forget that it still hurts to fall, and then you break something. This year's injuries were many, but I only know about two. Le Petit Prince, Guillaume Morisette, came up a bit short on a jump and broke his femur, and J.J. Thomas (who wants to be called Jarrett now) broke his ankle late in the season. Speaking of J.J., he's officially the most cutest snowboarder in the world. For a complete list check out the Snowboarder Girl insert with the January issue of Snowboarder Magazine. The insert will also go out with 1,000,000 copies of Teen, so expect an influx of 13 year old girls in the snowboard scene this winter. In other publication news, Slide Magazine (those guys from CT who are trying to carry the EI flag) have an official website. Check it out at http://hermes.k-o.org/slide/home.html for some insight into what you can expect from their first issue, due this fall. The Upstate New York scene is finally getting some play with SiteProject Magazine. Their debut issue includes tales of Team X, Team Hurton, Mt. Washington, Windham, and what to do with those long summer months. If you want a copy, send a buck to Site Project, c/o Rob Ticho, P.O. Box 1092 Main Street, Windham, NY 12496. The inevitable Sponsor drop section in next. Option cleaned up their team, which now only contains one, and dropped Jason Chatfield and Jay Nelson. Chatfield is rumored to be looking at a spot on the Sims team. Sims also made some cuts, dropping Allan Clark, Neil Goss and Kale Stephens, so basically, destroying themselves with the Whistler market. Airwalk was recently bought, firing basically everyone who works for them, including team manager Noah Brandon. Kyla Duffy, who left for an undisclosed reason is looking for a new sponsor, but she'll have a hard time finding one, since she's busy riding in Chile right now. Infact, most people are down in South America finsihing off their season. Look for that storyin Transworld later this year. In more bought and sold news, K2 recently purchased Ride, meaning they now own most of the snowboard industry. A quick list: Ride, Preston, Liquid, Prom, Swag, Twist, Morrow, Quicksilver, and of course K2 Snowboards, just to name a few. Earlier this summer, Aspen and the four other non-snowboard resorts in the US were feeling pressure from the National Forests to allow snowboarding, because they are on a national parks, and threfore, could not descriminate. However, the decision was overturned, so you're still not going to get to ride Aspen, Alta of any of the others. The most unimportant piece of gossip I can offer comes now: Meghan Pishke has broken up with long time boyfriend J2, and last I heard, is hooking up with David Carrier-Porcheron. I know you care.

5/25/99 Here's something that seems unavoidable in a sport which is showcased in television programs called "Maximum Carnage", the injury report.  Although it would be almost impossible to name every injury from a sprained ankle to a broken neck in snowboarding, were going to try.  Ummm, Okay, that didn't work.  Instead here's the recent news in snowboard injuries.  Chris Dufficy is retiring, even though he's not even of age in America.  Inside sources report Dufficy hit his head too hard riding and was hospitalized; doctor said "Snowboard again, hit your head, die." "Don't snowboard, don't hit your
head, live." Another of the doctor's favorite repeat patients, Devun Walsh, was hospitalized after a snowmobile accident which crushed his trachea (I wish I was kidding).  Tina Basich broke her foot, and Michelle Taggart blew out her knee, leading one to believe that she must have been on the east coast.   That's about it from the infirmary, although it's skateboard injury season, and Mt. Hood always takes out a few of our favorite pros.

5/10/99 (So much for constant updates, it's been what, a month? Oh well.) Mt. Snow has announced they will be the host of the 2000 Winter X Games.   This is part of a contract for American Skiing Company resorts to host the games for the next four years.  Mt. Snow will also host in 2001.  I beleive this is a good thing, because although the mountain sucks, they are the only ASC resort that knows how to hold an event.  I'm really excited, also, to finally get a chance to watch Ice Climbing in person.   If anyone actually went to Spring Loaded, they got to experience exactly why Killington better not host the X Games.   The female participants got shafted in the pipe division, and now that Killington realized they're about to lose some of the only repeat business they have, all of the girls get in free to next year's pipe contest.

4/16/99 Mike Macintire a.k.a. Mack Dawg has announced a pre-release, pre-completion name change of his 1999-2000 video.  Originally dubbed "Millenium" (surprise, surprise), it will now be entitled "Technical Difficulties".  The reason being someone already used the name "Millenium" for something. I figured Mack Dawg would have first choice of video titles, but such is apparently not the case.

yo to the beat y'all

4/14/99 Although it's officially too late to pre-register (yeah right, like they'd ever turn away your money), here's the down low dirt on Killington's Spring Loaded. No Kick's party, but it sounds like there still might be fun to be had.   Due to the shortened seasons that the East Coast is so lucky to have, the entire contest (Halfpipe and Slopestyle) will be held on Highline (the trail with the pipe), however, this year, the pipe will not be torn down to have the Slopestyle, the course will be built next to it.   The pipe itself will theoretically be good, as it is being rebuilt as we speak.   A new addition to the event will will the side disciplines, finger-boarding, dirt-jumping, pond-skimming and the most exciting, skateboarding.   Although it is only a rumor, you should bring your skateboard to this year's contest, as the street course, which has been dry cement for weeks, might just have ramps on it, which will be free to skate if you are in the contest.  In other news, Jared "A.C." Slater if going to be famous.   Seems he'll have one or two clips (that he filmed, Terje and Michaelchuk, not of him) in the upcoming MDP, "Millenium", and if you're real nice to him, he might even give you a Mack Dawg T-shirt.
