Leanne Pelosi and pretty much every snowboard babe ever will be appearing in Full Moon coming this Fall. It’s an epic line-up of past, present and future rippers, lots of powder and if we’re lucky, a few good ass shots. We caught up with Leanne to get the dirt on this radical release and find out what one of our friendliest, most favoritest Canuck has been shredding on this year.
You guys set the internet abuzz with your infamous ass shot. Great way to launch a film. How did that full moon go down and was there any reluctance?
Ha! We didn’t launch the film like that! You’re just linking that up in your head. We actually just went on a hike up Whistler on one of the first pow days and we thought it was a good idea. No thought process behind anything, we were just having fun. I didn’t know that those pictures were going to be as popular as they were! Cheers to the snowboarder butt.
Annie Boulanger, Helen Schettini, Jamie Anderson, Robin Van Gyn, Marie France Roy, Hana Beaman, Tara Dakides, Barrett Christy, Natasza Zurek and you all will be appearing in Full Moon. This is a heavy list of the world’s greatest professional female snowboarders. How did you did this once in a lifetime opportunity come about?
Yeah that is a super heavy list and the only way it came to be, was to believe it was going to happen. Over the years, our crew have become close friends and we wanted to do something to showcase the camaraderie between the generations of the past, present and future of snowboarding. If it wasn’t for the great pioneers of our time, we definitely wouldn’t be standing here right now, so we are going to do a little retrospective in the film. The best part about including the pioneers is that it gave me a chance to actually go visit them and interview them myself. I’ve only had the opportunity to visit Nat and Tara, but seeing them in their new chapter was equally inspiring.
Is the entire film dedicated to British Columbia or just your part and how has this made your life easier and possibly tougher?
I would have loved to do the entire film in our backyard, but this anomaly happened. The snow decided to go to Italy and Europe and not Whistler… so we had to chase it. This year was definitely extremely tough to travel to new spots and figure it out, especially filming on ski hills… but it was also one of the only years where I’ve been able to get to so many other places than just Whistler. It’s so easy to get stuck in Whistler because it’s so good. So this year was nice to check out some other locations. We had a great time at Mica Heli, Golden Alpine Holidays and Italy.
If this is the case, have you given any thoughts to pursuing a Tim Horton’s sponsorship?
Haha…bring it on. I like Tim Hortons, but it’s not as good as Heart Coffee!
Do you believe in superstitions tied to full moons? Do you get weirder or go bigger on full moons?
Yes. We are witches who back in the day would be in synch with the moon’s 28 day cycle. Hahaha.
With lack of snow plaguing the entire West Coast, how have you been getting creative this winter?
We are taking the time where we’d normally be filming to do some fun things like the World Ski and Snowboard Festival, “Intersection.” I had probably the best days of my season hanging and dressing up in costumes for this mockumentary we are working on. Even though we’re not shredding epic pow, we’re still out there and having fun.
There is a huge process that goes into releasing a video part, let alone an entire movie. What’s your favorite part of the process?
The best part is the filming part on a good day! You can count on one hand how many days you get like that, especially this season. And also the creative process behind some of the lifestyles, the look and feel of the project. We just got started, so we’re in the brainstorming phase right now and it’s really fun.
What’s surprised you the most this season?
The lack of snow in Whistler!
When will Full Moon be released and what can we expect?
Fall 2016 and you can expect it to be a part-less video. It’s all about riding with friends, right? There is also going to be some stuff released this fall. A lot of cool mini projects surrounding it.
