You know how we feel about San Diego, so chances are we won’t be offering epic coverage of the Cricket Campus Rail Jam finals like we did last year. But for all you flip flop fans, the action is coming to So Cal May 7th. If you like snowboarding, skateboarding, music and making your own t-shirts, be there or be somewhere else! All the official info:
San Diego — April 19, 2010 — The fun experienced at last year’s tour is back! On Friday, May 7, the Northeast parking lot at Qualcomm Stadium (Main Gate Entrance: 9449 Friars Road San Diego, CA 92108) will become a winter wonderland where skiers and snowboarders from across the nation participate in the Cricket Campus Rail Jam Tour as part of the third annual national urban snow and sport competition.
The course will be built on Friday morning using 25 tons of snow trucked in from the local mountains. Starting at 5:00 p.m. that day, dozens of skiers and snowboarders will traverse three treacherous rails on a 25’ wide, 25’ tall and 100’ long course. There will also be a skate addition to this year’s event, featuring a local pro skateboarding team demoing tricks on a halfpipe. The competitors will be vying for their share of cash and prizes that will be awarded to the top skiers and snowboarders.
Tour organizers expect attendance at Qualcomm urban snow sport event to number in the hundreds or thousands. Last year’s finals, held in Portland, Oregon, were attended by more than 5,000 people.
The Cricket Campus Rail Jam Tour is the first tour to take snowboarding and skiing off the slopes and into the hearts of college campuses. From Boulder to Boise and Salt Lake City to San Diego, the ten city tour will have stopped at ten various college campuses and local sites in eight states this spring.
As diverse as the snowboard lifestyle, the Cricket Campus Rail Jam Tour merges snowboarding, skateboarding, art, music, progressive business and environmental activism to create an event enjoyable to all. The event will also feature DJ performances and demonstration booths from some of the participating action sports companies. Attendees will have the opportunity to create their own free t-shirt using iron-on decals and press, and play the latest mobile games from Gameloft on LG Helix phones at gaming kiosks.
Although the snow, skiers and snowboarders garner most of the attention along the tour, the Cricket Campus Rail Jam Tour also provides local college students first-hand event planning and marketing experience. Produced by students and featuring riders from college ski and snowboard teams, the Cricket Campus Rail Jam Tour demonstrates what involvement in student organizations can produce.
